Federal Realty Investment Trust buys Virginia shopping centers

> Federal Realty Investment Trust, a Rockville-based real estate investment trust, bought South Valley Shopping Center and Mount Vernon Plaza, adjacent shopping centers in Fairfax County, Va. South Valley was purchased in fee simple for approximately $13.7 million cash. For Mount Vernon Plaza, FRIT acquired a leasehold interest with a purchase option for $17.5 million in cash, together with REIT partnership units and the assumption of debt.
