Daily Record, The (Baltimore), Sep 13, 2005 by Daily Record Staff

Unsportsmanlike

Six current and former Frostburg State University field hockey players have pled guilty to charges of hazing and have been fined $300 each. Allegany County District Court Judge Edward A. Malloy Jr., also imposed a suspended 60-day jail term and one year of unsupervised probation for each offender: Elizabeth B. Bissy Armstrong, 20, of Port Deposit; Tawni D. Buck, 21, of Port Deposit; Kristin M. Cousin, 20, of Edgewater; Amanda L. Griswold, 20, of Rockville; Kimberli E. Smith, 21, of Frederick; and Morgan S. Whalen, 20, of Milford, Del. Freshman victims of the Dec. 3 incident were forced to drink liquor, hospitalizing one of them with a blood- alcohol level of more than four times the legal limit. The freshman victims also were pelted with flour, ice and eggs, and made to sit in their own vomit and urine. If a Frostburg police officer had not encountered one of the victims by chance as she was being carried, unconscious, by her boyfriend, we could be here on very different charges, the judge said.

Damon pleads guilty

Richard A. Damon, 35, of Baltimore City has pled guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for the January 2005 killings of Theresa Moore, 51, and Michael Mick, 40. Moore and Mick were shot inside their Bradford Street home by Damon's codefendant, Antoine Adams, during a robbery. Under the plea agreement, Damon will be sentenced to two 20-year prison terms to be served concurrently. Adams was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder last month. Both defendants will be sentenced Oct. 25.

Student sentenced

Abere Karibi-Ikiriko, convicted last month of the second-degree murder of Okechukwu William Ohiri on January 15, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison with 15 years suspended, the Prince George's County state's attorney's office announced last week. The sentence was handed down late Friday by Prince George's County Circuit Court Judge Richard Sothoron II. Karibi-Ikiriko, 28, and Ohiri, 27, were roommates and medical students at Howard University when the killing occurred. During a taped call to 911, Karibi-Ikiriko stated I shot him, saying that Ohiri was trying to force her to have sex with him. At trial, however, she testified that Ohiri shot himself. Prosecutors said the motive for the shooting was unclear.
