R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. ends its Drinks on Us alcoholic beverage

> Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. said yesterday the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., of Winston-Salem, N.C., has ended its Drinks on Us alcoholic beverage coaster promotion, which officials and liquor industry representatives criticized for encouraging excessive drinking. Curran, along with the attorneys general of New York and California, had sent a letter to the company demanding that it stop sending promotional packages to young adults on their birthdays, with drink coasters bearing messages that they said encouraged irresponsible drinking.
