Verizon Communications Inc. blames sofware glitch for overbilling

Verizon Communications Inc. blamed a software glitch for the overbilling of 11,000 customers in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. The billing errors ranged from $200 to several thousand dollars, Verizon officials said. Officials discovered the mistake on June 26 and fixed the program on June 29, said Harry J.
Mitchell, a Verizon spokesman. The company sends out 5.3 million bills a month. Affected customers can expect a correction in their next bills, Mitchell said.
