Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. gets FDA go-ahead

Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc., an Indian company whose sales and marketing headquarters is in Baltimore, said it received permission from the Food and Drug Administration to market Amlodipine Beylate tablets, a generic drug used to treat high blood pressure. Commercial shipments of tablets in 2.5 milligram, 5 mg and 10 mg doses will commence shortly, the company said.
Amlodipine Beylate tablets are a counterpart to Norvasc, manufactured by Pfizer Inc., which accrued sales of approximately $2.7 billion for the 12 months ended December 2006.
