Eleven environmental groups sue U.S. Department of Energy

Daily Record, The (Baltimore), Jan 15, 2008

Eleven environmental groups sued the U.S. Department of Energy on Monday over its creation of a corridor in the mid-Atlantic region that could smooth the way for construction of new power lines. Under a 2005 law passed following a massive 2003 power blackout, the federal government can approve new transmission towers within designated corridors if states and regional groups fail to do so.

Last year, the Energy Department designated the mid-Atlantic corridor, including parts of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
