Law school rankings released; U of Baltimore moves up a tier

The University of Baltimore School of Law moved up a tier while the University of Maryland School of Law's ranking dropped slightly, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report law school rankings released Friday.

University of Baltimore's law school rose to tier three this year, according to the magazine's "Best Graduate Schools 2009." University of Maryland's law school tied for 42nd place, falling from a tie for 39th place. The top 100 law schools are included the top tier; the bottom-two tiers do not have individual rankings.

Yale Law School retained the top spot on the list, followed by a tie for second between Harvard Law School and Stanford Law School. Columbia Law School and New York University School of Law rounded out the top five.

According to the rankings, University of Baltimore's law school had 657 full-time students and cost $32,754 for full-time, out-of- state tuition in 2007, while University of Maryland's law school had 678 full-time students and cost $31,814 for full-time, out-of-state tuition.
