Edward R. Levin and Gary L. Lieber, partners in Saul Ewing's labor, employment and employee benefits practice group, have been recognized as Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers by Law & Politics magazine. Levin has 35-plus years of experience representing employers in labor and employment law matters, including labor negotiations, arbitrations, and union organizing campaigns. He has litigated cases involving discrimination, wrongful discharge, sexual harassment and related claims in state and federal courts across the United States. Levin has represented clients before the NLRB, the U.S. Department of Labor, the EEOC and numerous state and local fair employment agencies. Lieber has more than 30 years of experience as a labor and employment attorney. He concentrates his practice in labor-management relations and defense of employment discrimination cases on behalf of management. Lieber serves as national labor counsel to the National Electrical Contractors Association and is co- counsel to the Council on Industrial Relations for the Electrical Contracting Industry. The Super Lawyers list honors the top 5 percent of the lawyers in D.C. based on surveys with lawyers throughout the D.C. area and independent research by Law & Politics.
B'nai B'rith International will present the Commitment to Justice Award to key attorneys and leadership of DLA Piper for their outstanding dedication to pro bono services on a local, national and global basis. The award will be presented to Berl Bernhard, Sheldon Krantz, and DLA Piper's joint CEOs Frank Burch and Lee Miller. Bernhard will be honored for his role in spearheading the innovative Middle East Investment Initiative; Krantz will be recognized for developing the global pro bono program New Perimeter; and Burch and Miller will be commended for their commitment to expanding the reach of the firm's pro bono programs. DLA Piper is a global law firm with 3,700 lawyers in 64 offices throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
United Legal Benefits announced it has hired J. Spencer "Spence" Garrett as senior account manager. In his new position, Garrett will lead sales efforts for the Lutherville-based group legal services firm. He will develop relationships with corporate, not-for-profit and government entities, espousing the advantages of offering the United Legal Benefits Plan as an employee benefit. Garrett will act as a company spokesperson, presenting the features of the plan to prospective sponsors and facilitating the enrollment process. United Legal Benefits maintains a network of participating law firms in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and Southeastern Pennsylvania.
