Vote delayed on repealing computer services tax in Maryland
Daily Record, The (Baltimore), Mar 31, 2008 by Andy Rosen
A measure to repeal Maryland's controversial tax on computer services is not going anywhere, at least until Tuesday.
Senate Budget and Taxation Committee Chairman Ulysses Currie, D- Prince George's, said Monday morning that his committee would not vote Monday on whether to repeal the tax. Currie has said the committee would vote on repeal Monday, but he told reporters that the panel is still looking for a palatable way to replace the more than $200 million the tax is expected to generate annually.
The committee will have to be first to move if the General Assembly is going to repeal the tax before the legislative session ends next Monday, because House members are waiting for Senate action before they take up the repeal question.
