Silver Spring-based Choice's earnings increase

Choice Hotels International Inc., of Silver Spring, a hotel franchise chain, said its first-quarter profit rose 14 percent on higher revenue from nearly all divisions. Net income rose to $18.6 million, or 30 cents per diluted share, from $16.3 million, or 24 cents per diluted share. The company reported 61.7 million shares outstanding at the end of the 2008 first quarter, compared with 65.8 million shares outstanding at the end of the year-earlier quarter.
The results included a 3-cents-per-share charge for termination benefits for several executive officers.
