Donald Heider to leave post at Philip Merrill College of Journalism

Daily Record, The (Baltimore), May 7, 2008

Loyola University Chicago announced that Donald Heider, associate dean of the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park, has been appointed as the first dean of Loyola's new School of Communication. He will officially begin his new duties on Aug. 1, according to the announcement by the Jesuit institution.

Heider is the second high administrator at the Merrill school to leave this year. Dean Thomas Kunkel announced earlier that he will become president of St. Norbert College, a Catholic liberal arts college in Wisconsin. A spokesman at the Merrill school said Kunkel will remain at UMCP through July, and a new dean is expected to be at the school by the end of the summer. In the event that a new dean is not on hand when classes resume, the spokesman said a senior faculty member will be named to serve as interim dean until a new dean takes over.
