Bethesda-based Areva to build Idaho facility

Areva Inc., of Bethesda, said it will build a new uranium enrichment facility in Bonneville County, Idaho, as the company seeks to expand nuclear infrastructure in the United States. The location was chosen after several potential U.S. sites were analyzed, Areva said. The company, the U.S. arm of Paris-based Areva SA, the world's biggest maker of nuclear reactors, said it will seek needed approvals, such as a license from the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission to build and operate the plant. The $2 billion facility should be operational in 2014, according to a spokesman.
