ACCOUNTING

Invotex Group has promoted Michele Riley and Jennifer Vanderhart to managing directors of its intellectual property litigation practice, and Henry P. Kass to managing director and chief administrative officer. Riley has more than 10 years of experience consulting on commercial damages, intellectual property and bankruptcy matters. Vanderhart has more than 10 years of experience providing a variety of consulting services. Kass has been with the firm for more than 20 years.

For the second year in a row, Alan Spero, principal at Gorfine, Schiller & Gardyn P.A., has been selected to serve as chairman of PKF North American Network's Construction Committee for 2008. PKF North American Network is a membership association comprised of 160 independent accounting and consulting firms in North America that are dedicated to serving middle-market businesses and individual clients.

ARCHITECTURE

Hord Coplan Macht Inc. (HCM), a full-service architecture and landscape architecture firm, has added architect Chris Harvey as principal to the HCM team. Harvey joins HCM with more than 23 years of professional experience. In his new role, he is responsible for leading the mixed-use studio where he will oversee and manage a variety of projects.

AWARDS

The Maryland Chapter of Young Audiences/Arts for Learning (YA) announced that the president of its board of directors, Eric Pripstein, has won the National Young Audiences Board Member of the Year Award. In addition, Ssuuna, a performer and teaching artist from Uganda, won the National Young Audiences Artist of the Year Award. Pripstein has served on YA's board for over 15 years and has volunteered more than 1,000 hours to the organization.

Mullin/Ashley Associates Inc., a regional communications, PR and market research firm, has won two awards in the annual Alfred Knight Awards competition. The awards were won for work performed for Anne Arundel Medical Center and the Maryland Hospital Association. The Alfred Knight Awards recognizes outstanding work in the field of health care marketing and communications.

Dr. Joanne M. Martin and her husband, the late Dr. Elmer P. Martin, have received The Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Award for their visionary leadership in educational advancement, economic development and community building in the city of Baltimore. The Martins are the founders of The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.

BANKING

SunTrust Bank, Greater Washington/Maryland announced that Jonathan Holloway, a commercial relationship manager, was named a vice president within its commercial division. Holloway has been with SunTrust for five years. Located at 120 E. Baltimore St., he will work with commercial clients in the Baltimore area.

EDUCATION

The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business named three new additions to the Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship's advisory board: Paul Bowen, Stephen M. Frederick and Richard Wagreich. Bowen is president of Bowen Advisors, a mergers and acquisitions and strategic advisory firm for communications technology companies. Frederick is a principal with Grotech Capital Group. Wagreich has been part of the investment banking division of Goldman, Sachs & Co.

College of Notre Dame of Maryland has hired Mabel Valdivia as director of foundation, corporate and government relations. Valdivia came to College of Notre Dame from Adventist Development and Relief Agency International in Silver Spring, where she served as associate director for planning. She has also served as policy director for the National Latino Council on Alcohol and Tobacco Prevention.

Judy Faso has joined Carroll Community College as adult education intake/assessment specialist. The program provides services to adults seeking a high school diploma or learning English as a second language. Faso is a certified counseling professional with 19 years of experience providing personal, career, academic, financial, and crisis intervention counseling.

ENGINEERING

Frederick Ward Associates has hired Adam Motchenbaugh as a civil design engineer with the engineering division. He will be involved in a variety of engineering commissions including commercial, industrial and residential developments. Previously, Motchenbaugh was employed with C.S. Davidson in Gettysburg, Pa.

HEALTH CARE

James G. Lee, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Adventist HealthCare, is the new director of the HealthCare Financial Management Association (HFMA) board. HFMA is a national organization that focuses on improving the financial management and business performance of health-care related organizations. Lee has held roles with the organization's board of examiners and national advisory councils.

OrthoMaryland has added Mark A. Deitch, M.D., to its practice group. Deitch is an experienced surgeon who specializes in surgery of the hand and upper extremities, including the shoulder and elbow. He serves on the medical staff at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine as an assistant clinical professor.
