Marylanders receive awards: May 16, 2008

The Maryland Chapter of Young Audiences/Arts for Learning (YA) announced that the president of its board of directors, Eric Pripstein, has won the National Young Audiences Board Member of the Year Award. In addition, Ssuuna, a performer and teaching artist from Uganda, won the National Young Audiences Artist of the Year Award. Pripstein has served on YA's board for over 15 years and has volunteered more than 1,000 hours to the organization.

Mullin/Ashley Associates Inc., a regional communications, PR and market research firm, has won two awards in the annual Alfred Knight Awards competition. The awards were won for work performed for Anne Arundel Medical Center and the Maryland Hospital Association. The Alfred Knight Awards recognizes outstanding work in the field of health care marketing and communications.

Dr. Joanne M. Martin and her husband, the late Dr. Elmer P. Martin, have received The Gandhi, King, Ikeda Community Builders Award for their visionary leadership in educational advancement, economic development and community building in the city of Baltimore. The Martins are the founders of The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum.
