The Montgomery County Business Roundtable for Education officially recognized MCT Federal Credit Union as the 2007 Business Champion for Children at the 6th Annual Champions for Children Awards Gala. Each year, the award is given to one local company or organization that shows leadership in the community, a commitment to improving education and involvement in the schools.

Bernadette Flynn Low, professor of English in the School of Liberal Arts at the Community College of Baltimore County, was recently honored as the Outstanding College Teacher of the Year by the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce. Low has been on the faculty at CCBC since 1973. She was recognized for her contributions to the college and the community, specifically her work on the Middle States five- year report as well as her work on online education and service learning.

The Jewish Museum of Maryland has been named one of the top 10 Jewish museums in North America by Jewish Living magazine. The museum, located at 15 Lloyd St. in downtown Baltimore, houses the largest collection of regional Jewish Americana in the country. In receiving this honor, the Jewish Museum of Maryland was chosen from among 80 other American Jewish museums.

Reznick Group's Baltimore office has been awarded the 2008 Governor's Volunteer Service Award. The office recently received the Governor's Award in the "Business Group" category at the 25th Annual Governor's Volunteer Service Awards ceremony in Annapolis. The office was recognized for its volunteer projects during 2007, including its annual Community Outreach Day held in June.

Towson University has named six prominent alumni as recipients of this year's Dean's Recognition Awards. The following alumni received the awards for 2008: Eric C. Lent; Donald A. Manekin; Barbe Awalt; Mary Ellen Lashley; Steve Battista; and David Lucantoni. The awards are presented annually to TU alumni who have exemplified themselves through superior professional growth and accomplishment in their fields.

eCity Corp. has won the Astrid Bronze Award for the business collateral designed for Chesapeake Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. eCity is a full-service branding agency, specializing in graphic design, Web development, marketing and public relations. The company is based in Ellicott City.

Stage and screen actor John Glover is Towson University's Distinguished Alumnus for 2008. Glover is one of the first graduates of the theater program at what was then called Towson State College. He performed in off-Broadway productions for a decade, and in 1973 received an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor for his performance in "The Traveler."
