MedImmune Inc., of Gaithersburg, a biotechnology company focused on developing and manufacturing products to combat infectious disease, autoimmune disease and cancer, announced that it is looking to fill more than 800 jobs, mostly in research and development and clinical positions, by the end of the year, expanding its work force by nearly 25 percent.

MedImmune said it has filled nearly half of the available jobs to date. The company, which was acquired by British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca in 2007, said it is recruiting employees from major domestic biotech hubs in the U.S., including San Francisco, Boston and North Carolina, and in Europe.
