Devaney & Associates, a full-service advertising, marketing and public relations agency, announced the addition of Salt Tavern to its client roster. AWARDS
The U.S. Commerce Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced that East Baltimore Development Inc. received the 2008 Excellence in Economic Development Award for Urban or Suburban Economic Development for its commitment to sound, research-based, market-driven economic development in helping grow the local economy. EDA serves as a venture capital resource to meet the economic development needs of distressed communities throughout the United States.
Fick Bros Roofing & Exterior Remodeling Co. has been selected by REMODELING magazine as a winner of the 2008 Big50 Award. The company has been in business for over 88 years. Fick Bros. received the Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland 2006 Torch Award for Business Ethics, one of just four regional companies honored for ethical business practices, efforts and achievement.
Warschawski has been recognized for its creative design and public relations work by the 2008 Communicator Awards, which is an international awards program that honors creative excellence for communication professionals. The firm received 10 awards for its creative design work on behalf of W.L. Gore & Associates (maker of GORE-TEX), DEWALT, Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, Gebhardt & Smith, and the United States Tennis Association, among others.
Cho Benn Holback + Associates has been honored with two top design awards for its conversion of a historic building, devastated by fire, into loft apartments and office space. The Assembly Building at Clipper Mill has been awarded the 2008 Grand Design Award for Adaptive Reuse from Residential Architect magazine and the Award of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute.
BOARDS
Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation announced the election of five new board members: Allen J. Fair, William R. Minton, Steven J. Glock, Patrick L. Hess and Steven D. Linkous. Established in 1984, Upper Chesapeake Health is a not-for-profit health organization based in Harford County. The organization owns and operates Harford Memorial Hospital, Upper Chesapeake Medical Center and Campus, Upper Chesapeake/St. Joseph Home Care and Harford Hospice.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Bill Spigler, regional Base Realignment and Closure work force project coordinator, and Patty McDonald, business and career consultant, are the newest staff members of Frederick County Workforce Services. Spigler will manage projects in the Fort Detrick region, which includes Frederick and Western Maryland counties. McDonald will work directly with businesses in their recruitment, training and retention efforts.
COMMUNICATIONS
Bonnie Heneson Communications, a full-service marketing communications firm, has hired Andrew Aldrich as a junior account executive. Prior to joining Bonnie Heneson Communications, Aldrich served in the public information office of the Carroll County government. In 2006, he wrote for the Carroll County Times.
EDUCATION
The College of Notre Dame of Maryland has named Heidi Lippmeier Fletcher vice president for enrollment management. Fletcher comes to the college from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C., where she spent nine years in the admissions office, most recently as director of admissions. Prior to Meredith College, she served as a freshman admissions officer at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
Robert L. Parker has joined the Maryland Higher Education Commission's Office of Student Financial Assistance as its director. Parker comes to MHEC after most recently serving as director of financial aid at Baltimore City Community College. He has held similar positions at various community colleges in Virginia and Washington State.
Anne Y. Lin, dean of College of Notre Dame of Maryland's School of Pharmacy, has been appointed an external examiner to a pharmacy program at Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lin will serve as an external examiner to the university's master of science in clinical pharmacy program. She was an external examiner when the program was founded in 1998 and has been asked to return for the pharmacy program's 10-year review.
ENGINEERING
Jeffrey Cerquetti has joined JMT as vice president in its Sparks corporate office. Cerquetti will provide senior management for structures and port and coastal engineering under its facilities division. He brings more than 25 years of structural and civil engineering experience to JMT.
HEALTH CARE
Jean Wible has been named assistant professor of massage therapy and coordinator of the Student Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (STMB) Clinic in the School of Health Professions at the Community College of Baltimore County. Wible has extensive experience as a nurse as well as massage therapist in private practice. At CCBC, she will be responsible for overseeing student clinical rotations through the STMB clinic located on the Essex campus.
