AWARDS

The Residences at Bulle Rock was recently honored in the National Sales and Marketing Council's awards competition The Nationals, the nation's largest competition for new-home sales and marketing professionals and communities. The Residences at Bulle Rock received the Regional Award for Best Landscape Design for a Detached Community. The community is under development by Manekin LLC, Clark Turner and H&S Properties Development Corporation.

Ruppert Nurseries announced that Craig Ruppert was selected as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year 2008 Award in the Greater Washington Region. Ruppert was selected as a finalist from nearly 100 nominations by a panel of independent judges. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate extraordinary success in the areas of innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

St. Agnes Hospital has named Angela Keppley its 2008 Nurse of the Year. Keppley is a nurse of 5 North, one of the hospital's medical/ surgical units. She was chosen from a group of nominees for her skill and proficiency in the following categories: professional practice of nursing; meeting patient needs; providing compassionate care; and dedication to the mission, vision, and core values of St. Agnes Hospital.

Nearly 65 graduates of Leadership Anne Arundel's (LAA) Flagship Class and Neighborhood Leadership Academy were recognized at LAA's annual Tribute to Community Leadership. Three special award winners were announced during the ceremony: De'Borah Dent, Jack Harden Community Champion Award winner; William Todd, Patrick M. Lee Jr. Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service to Leadership Anne Arundel; and Nadja Maril, LAA Distinguished Graduate for 2008.

Manekin LLC received two 2007 CoStar Power Broker Awards for being a "Top Leasing Firm" and a "Top Sales Firm" in the Baltimore market. During the past year, Manekin's brokerage division completed 167 transactions valued at over $100 million. Its investment sales division brokered four portfolio investment sales in the Baltimore- Washington Corridor totaling $200 million and 1 million square feet.

RTKL, the international architecture, planning, engineering and creative services firm, recently won first place in the Dongli Lake Competition. The competition challenged four top global design firms to develop a master plan for the 85-square-kilometer Dongli Lake site in China. RTKL also enjoyed another major competition win, the National Art Museum of China expansion project in Beijing.

Thomas R. Mullen, president and CEO of Mercy Health Services, was honored at the 10th annual American Red Cross, Central Maryland Chapter's "Hometown Heroes" awards breakfast. Mullen and Mercy Medical Center were recognized in the "Healthcare Provider" category for the hospital's health care services to the Baltimore community and its plans for the new $400 million Mary Catherine Bunting Center.

J. Wesley Bone, chairman of the Maryland and D.C. Credit Union Association and board member of First Financial of Maryland Federal Credit Union, received the Hall of Fame Award Congressman Wright Patman Memorial. At the recent 55th Annual Meeting of First Financial of Maryland FCU, Bone concluded his 37 years of service as chairman of the board. He will continue to serve on the board as a director until his term expires in 2011.

BANKING

Outgoing Columbia Foundation President and CEO Barbara K. Lawson has been elected a director of Howard Bancorp and Howard Bank. Lawson has served for 19 years as head of Howard County's community foundation. She previously had a career with the American Red Cross that included a variety of international assignments.

BOARDS

The Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers announced its 2008- 2009 newly elected officers and board members. Newly elected officers are: President Lynn Homeier Rauch, Vice President Bob Waldman, Treasurer Vernon Wright and Secretary Pat Bernstein. The new board members are: Diane Bell-McKoy, Lara Hall, Bill McCarthy and Meg Woodside.

Dick Riggs has been elected as a board member to the Ducks Unlimited board of directors. Prior to this appointment, he had served on the Ducks Unlimited board as a senior advisory vice president. The board consists of 60 DU members from the U.S. and Canada, all with the same passion for wetland habitat conservation.

The Woodbourne Center Inc. announced that a new slate of officers has been voted onto the board of directors. They are: Chairman Perry S. Bacon, Vice Chair Bruce E. Behrens, Treasurer Charles A. Berardesco and Secretary Joyce Stewart. The new board members will begin their terms in September.

Charlie Ross, president and CEO of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Maryland Broadband Coordination Board. Ross also serves as chairman of the Rural Maryland Council. He has 25 years experience in government and public affairs. The Rural Broadband Coordination Board is responsible for overseeing efforts to deploy broadband infrastructure in rural and underserved areas of the state.
