Oregon Senate passes Renewable Energy Standard

Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR), Apr 11, 2007

The Oregon Senate on Tuesday passed a Renewable Energy Standard that would require the state to draw 25 percent of its power from renewable sources by 2025.

The bill would require Oregon's major utilities, like PGE and PacifiCorp, which support the bill, to obtain 5 percent of their power from renewables by 2011, increasing by increments to 25 percent by 2025.

The Industrial Customers Northwest Utilities, which represents users such as Weyerhaeuser, Hewlett-Packard and Oregon Steel Mills, opposes the bill.
