Portland General Electric top seller of renewable energy

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory has ranked Portland General Electric first in the nation for its renewable energy sales to residential customers for the third year in a row.

PGE's residential customers purchased 444,925,242 kilowatt-hours in 2007, a 29 percent increase from 2006.

The company ranked third in overall sales, which includes residential and commercial customers, with 55,677,903 kilowatt- hours sold in 2007.

And PGE ranked second in the nation for the total number of customers buying renewable power, which surpassed 61,000 for the first time in 2007, a 20 percent increase over the previous year. PGE's Green Source and Clean Wind programs offer customers the option of paying a higher rate to buy power generated from wind, geothermal or biomass sources.
