MESA event at Portland State University sparks creativity in young
Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR), May 13, 2008 by Dan Carter
More than 350 middle and high school students from 13 Portland area schools built bridges, egg holders, rockets and catapults to compete in the annual MESA Day event at Portland State University on Friday. MESA (math, engineering and science achievement) is a pre- college outreach program of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science at Portland State University.
MESA strives to engage under-represented students in grades six through 12 in science, math and technology disciplines through the creation of hands-on projects. Two of the teams in each of the events will go on to represent Oregon at the national competition in Maryland. The lead sponsors for MESA Day are Intel and the Lemelson Foundation.
