Oregon Department of Transportation recognized for Interstate-5

Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR), Jun 12, 2008

The Oregon Department of Transportation has been awarded the 2008 Globe award by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association.

The award recognized ODOT's excellence in environmental protection and mitigation on the 11 Interstate-5 bridges between Eugene and Roseburg, as part of the OTIA III State Bridge Delivery Program.

ODOT contractors recycled nearly 30,000 cubic yards of demolition materials and 80 pre-stressed concrete box beams for use in other projects. In addition, the new bridges include features to protect habitats for bats and chub fish and reduce the number of water disruptions. Bioswales treat storm-water runoff from the bridges. Ten bridges were replaced and one was repaired.

The Globe Award is presented annually to agencies that enhance and protect the environment during the planning, design and construction of U.S. transportation infrastructure projects.
