Portland State plans in-fill bike parking project

Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR),  Jul 10, 2008  by Report

An in-fill tenant improvement project for an indoor bicycle parking facility has been announced by Portland State University. The project is a partnership between the university and TriMet to encourage multimodal transportation in the region and the university district.

Portland State will develop and manage the operation of the facility, which will use the first-floor parking area at the University Center Building, located at Southwest Fifth Avenue and Harrison Street. Based on a feasibility study for a bike hub, prepared by Yost Grube Hall Architecture, the facility will include a bicycle retail unit, secure indoor bike parking and reorientation of automobile parking access.

The retail unit will have an 800-square-foot sales and display area, 800-square-foot service and repair area and 200-square-foot support space. A 2,400-square-foot indoor bike parking facility will provide rack storage for 28 public bikes and 72 for use by university students, faculty, staff and alumni. An entry and exit for the existing structure is proposed to be located at Southwest Harrison Street.

The facility is scheduled to open in October 2009.
