Balch project opportunities will be presented in Portland

Daily Journal of Commerce (Portland, OR),  Jul 14, 2008

The city of Portland's Bureau of Environmental Services will hold a subcontracting opportunity forum for its Balch Consolidation Conduit, Shafts and Pipelines project on July 17 at the Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs Center.

The request for proposals for the project required contractors to state their proposed level of Minority, Women and Emerging Small Business utilization and their approach for developing and implementing an MWESB program construction services plan and a workforce training and hiring program plan.

BES received proposals from Frank Coluccio Construction Co., Michels Tunneling, Kiewit Pacific and James W. Fowler Co. At the forum, each company will give a presentation on the approach it will take to provide subcontracting opportunities.

Construction on the $40 million Balch project will begin in May 2009.

The forum will take place at 5:30 p.m. at OAME Center, 4134 N. Vancouver Ave., in Portland. To register, e-mail Susan Wheaton, business opportunity program coordinator for BES, at susanw@bes.ci.portland.or.us.
