Malcolm Martin, law firm co-founder, dies

St. Louis Daily Record & St. Louis Countian, Jan 31, 2004 by Donna Walter

We had this game we played every morning when he would walk in, she said. Whatever day it was, we would say `Happy Friday' or `Happy Tuesday,' whatever day it was, and we tried to beat each other to the punch. And it would get to the point where the little man would cheat! He would still be on the elevator, and he would yell it out. And I would yell at him, `Mr. Martin, you're cheating, and you know it!' Well, he would just bust out laughing, and then he had me laughing so hard, and we just went round and round every day like this.

He still did that the last time he came into the office, said Tomaso, adding that it was remarkable that Martin would come to the office every day as cheery as a person could get.

He was amazing, said Burr. I just hated to hear that he passed away, but I know he couldn't live forever.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 7 at The Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2143 North Ballas Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Gateway Center of Metropolitan St. Louis, The Saint Louis Art Museum or the St. Louis Symphony.
