Swearingen joins Legal Services of Eastern Missouri

Robert Swearingen has joined Legal Services of Eastern Missouri as a staff attorney in the organization's consumer unit. He was hired under a special grant Legal Services received from the National Legal Aid & Defender Association.
As a staff attorney in LSEM's Consumer Unit, Swearingen will handle cases involving predatory lending practices, deceptive practices, breaches of contract, breaches of warranty, wrongful repossession and illegal collection tactics. Before joining Legal Services, Swearingen served as supervising attorney for the Legal Services Plan of the United Auto Workers. He has also worked as a St. Louis public defender, in the office of the Missouri Attorney General and at Hulen, Hulen, Tatlow & Gump, a private firm in Moberly.
Swearingen has conducted UAW Legal Services Plan training seminars on time-share litigation, the uniform commercial code, fair debt collection practices, truth in lending, unfair and deceptive acts and practices, and trial skills.
Swearingen received his bachelor's degree in political science and sociology from the University of Missouri and his law degree from the University of Missouri School of Law. He lives in St. Louis.
