Garden tips and events

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Apr 18, 2003

Depending on your location, the recent hard frosts may have damaged fruit flowers and even some of the less-hardy vegetables. Don't panic. There's nothing you can do to correct the problem.

The flower bulbs are not damaged, although the blossom time might have been shortened. Time will tell how much damage your fruit trees suffered from the cold. Keep in mind that if 10 percent of the blossoms survive, you will get a full crop.

On April 23, the Utah Hemerocallis Society will hold a sale of daylilies and other perennials. The sale begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Both events are at the Sugarhouse Park Garden Center, 1600 East and 2100 South in Salt Lake City. Call 466 0121 for information.
