TOKYO -- Japanese tiremaker Bridgestone Corp. said Monday it will build a $16 million plant in China to produce car parts.

The new plant will produce anti-vibration products and will be located in the city of Changzhou, about 100 miles northwest of Shanghai, Tokyo-based Bridgestone said in a prepared statement. Production will begin in late 2004, with monthly production capacity to reach 150,000 units in 2005.

Bridgestone, the world's largest tiremaker, already produces anti- vibration products at five factories, two in Japan, one in Thailand and two in the United States.
