Moab to receive Green Power Award

MOAB -- Moab has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy to receive a 2003 Green Power Leadership Award for its commitment to renewal energy.

Moab had championed renewable power through its participation in Utah Power's Blue Sky wind energy program.

"The city of Moab has demonstrated great leadership in its commitment to purchasing renewable energy," Matt Clouse, program manager for the EPA Green Power Partnership program, said. "Electricity generated from renewable sources, including solar, wind, small hydro, geothermal and biomass, is becoming increasingly utilized, thanks to the progressive efforts of organizations like the city of Moab.

"By choosing green power instead of conventional electricity, they are transforming the energy marketplace and helping clean the air, protect the environment and build a sustainable future."

Moab started purchasing Utah Power's Blue Sky wind energy in Feb. 2002.

Also honored was Sarah Wright, coordinator of Utah Power's Utah Wind Power campaign for marketing it to Utah businesses.
