Topic: RSS FeedConcertante to play Tuesday in BYU hall
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Feb 22, 2004 by Edward Reichel Deseret Morning News
The chamber ensemble Concertante will perform in Provo on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the de Jong Concert Hall at Brigham Young University. Tickets are $9 for general admission and $6 for students (at the Harris Fine Arts box office or at 378-4322).
The eight-member ensemble will play early works by three remarkably prolific composers: Shostakovich's "Two Pieces for String Octet," op. 11, Enesco's Octet in C major, op. 7, and Mendelssohn's Octet in E flat Major, op. 20.
Concertante was founded in 1995 by a group of Juilliard students who wanted to continue their collaboration after graduating. The ensemble performs a wide-ranging repertoire of larger chamber works from the standard literature and new music.
The group, which has toured throughout the United States and has also appeared on National Public Radio's "St. Paul Sunday," recently returned from its first tour of China.
The ensemble has released three CDs so far. It is the resident chamber music ensemble at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg, Pa., and regularly holds concerts there and in New York City.
