Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" will be performed by the University of Utah School of Music on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Libby Gardner Concert Hall. Tickets are $3-$8, available by calling 581-7100 or going online at www.arttix.org or at the door.

They will join the Utah Philharmonia, the University of Utah Singers, the Concert Chorale, the A Cappella Choir and the Lyric Opera Ensemble under the baton of Dr. Brady R. Allred.

Allred has recently been appointed director of choral conducting at the U. A number of his choirs have won national competitions, including first prize at the prestigious Marktoberdorf International Chamber Choir Competition.

In addition to his position at the U., Allred is also artistic director and conductor of the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh, with which he has recorded five CDs. Their most recent album, released on the Clarion label, is called "Cantate Hodie: Sing Forth This Day."

Allred is also artistic director of the New York State Summer School of the Arts and has conducted the School of Choral Studies in concerts at the Rockefeller Center for the Arts and at the Chautauqua Institute. He has conducted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on two occasions for the "Music and the Spoken Word" broadcast.
