Salt Lake City
May 1-2
"Mexifest" at Salt Palace. Latino food and music festival. Events include a salsa tasting contest a salsa dance contest, and a Mexican customs contest, with women dressed in costumes from different states of Mexico.
Hours: 11 to 11 Sat., 12-10 Sun. Admission: $2. Proceeds go to the Utah Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Foundation. Sponsored by Mundo Hispano newspaper and Univision. Information: 801-569-3338.
May 4-5
Ballet Folklorico "Quetzalli" de Veracruz at Kingsbury Hall, University of Utah. A performance of live Mexican dances and music. 7:30 p.m. Tue. and Wed. Admission: $12-$18, discounts for students and groups. Information: 801-355-2787.
May 8
Horizonte School Cinco de Mayo 5k run and walk, and festival with Mexican music, folk dancing and food. Entrance fee: $15. Run starts at 9 a.m. at the state Capitol and ends at Memory Grove. Proceeds support scholarship for Horizonte students. Information: 578-8574, ext. 413
Heber City
May 1
Cinco de Mayo on Heber Valley Railroad. A train ride with live Latin music, dinner and dancing. 6 to 8:30 p.m. Admission: $38 adult, $21 for children 3-12. Children under 3 are free. Information: 435- 654-5601.
West Valley City
May 1
Cinco de Mayo Celebration at Centennial Park. Features entertainment, games, food, rides, music and dancing. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Admission is free. Sponsored by Telemundo and West Valley City.
Ogden
May 8
Cinco de Mayo Festival at Ogden
Amphitheater & Municipal Gardens. Music, performances and food from a variety of Latin American cultures. Events include Weber State University Brain Bowl award, Car & Bike Show, and children's activities. Noon to 8 p.m. Admission is free. Sponsored by Image de Utah - NU CHAC. Information: 801-644-6362.
