Europe's winter glam capital is St. Moritz

And there's more, lots more, for adrenaline junkies, such as ice polo (the 21st annual Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow takes place Jan. 27-30), ski-jumping and ice-skating competitions, and even greyhound races on ice. And let us not forget skijoring, a recklessly perilous sport in which skiers are pulled by horses at breakneck speed across the ice.

And if you think Americans with anemic dollars can't afford the good life, think again: Ski packages from the United States -- negotiated before the dollar's fall -- can be had this season from about $1,500, including round-trip airfare, seven nights' lodging at a three-star hotel and lift tickets. Check with Houston-based Ski Europe at 713-960-0900 or www.ski-europe.com.
