Americans are rich and stupid
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Aug 17, 2006
Joye Henrie (Readers' Forum, Aug. 16) tries to justify the absurd general education requirements in colleges and universities by stating that the United States is on a slope to becoming one of the dumber nations in the world. Despite this fact, she points out that the United States is the richest nation in the world. Does she not see the connection here? Students are not learning what they need to, yet they continue to pay out the nose for a bachelor's degree, making the nation both rich and stupid. I'm waiting for someone to explain how "general education requirements" aren't just "minimum spending requirements" imposed by these institutions.
