"THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE," a joint production of Emerson-Smith College and Paradox Entertainment on Saturday, 2 p.m., in the Royal Palace Theatre, 165 N. Main, Spanish Fork.
Come prepared to sing, dance and do cold readings from the script. Also wear comfortable clothes to move around in. This will be staged as a "Halloween style" production.
THE ACADEMY THEATRE COMPANY, 3188 S. 400 East, on Monday and Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., for "The Snow Queen," scheduled to play Dec. 1- 23. All roles are open for men, women and children of all ages. There will be cold readings from the script. Bring a current resume and photograph, if available. Rehearsals begin Sept. 18 (486-2728).

PLAN-B THEATRE COMPANY on Sept. 23, noon-4 p.m., in the Studio Theatre of the Rose Wagner Center, 138 W. Broadway (300 South), for Tobin Atkinson's 1997 satirical musical drama, "The Alienation Effekt," focusing on the Utah high school gay-club debate. Atkinson, a co-founder of Plan-B, will come from Washington, D.C., to direct this 10th anniversary production.
There are roles for four men and three women, 18-50 years of age. Equity special appearance contracts are available. Each actor will play at least three roles, including U.S. sena-
tors, gay teenagers, Jewish teachers, Utah businessmen, bigots, LDS mothers, saints and lovers. The ability to play a guitar or other acoustic instrument is a major plus.
There will be cold readings from the script. Come prepared with a 90-second contemporary monologue that you can present as two distinctly different characters of your choice. Also be prepared to sing 16 bars of a song of your choice a cappella.

WEST JORDAN THEATER ARTS on Sept. 27-28, 6:30-9 p.m., at West Jordan City Hall, 8000 S. Redwood Road, for "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever," directed by Pat Oliver, to play Nov. 24-Dec. 11 in the Sugar Factory Playhouse.

FARMINGTON CITY'S LEISURE SERVICES department is scheduling a three-week series of classes for children in two different age groups -- grades K-2 and 3-8 -- on skills that directors look for during auditions.
Registration continues through Sept. 13. Classes will be held Sept. 15-29.
