BORN -- June 22, 1949, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

EDUCATION -- B.S., New York University; MBA, New York University; M.S., MIT.

EXPERIENCE -- Worked for AT&T for nearly 30 years, promoted to head of the consumer and business market divisions before resigning in 1996. Joined Qwest Communications International Inc. in 1997 where he was chief executive officer until he was asked to resign in June 2002 amid an accounting scandal.
