LOVECRAFT'S PROVIDENCE: Walking tours will be held March 17, at 11 a.m., sponsored by the Rhode Island Historical Society, $10, 401-273-7507 ext. 62 (meet at the corner of College and Prospect streets by the Van Wickle Gates of Brown University), and March 18, at 1 p.m., sponsored by the Providence Preservation Society, $10, 401-831-7440 (meet at 21 Meeting St.).

PULP UNCOVERED: Festival with exhibits, films and a discussion of Lovecraft's legacy, March 15-18, Brown University; www.pulpuncovered.com or 401-863-1177.

H.P. LOVECRAFT HISTORICAL SOCIETY: www.cthulhulives.org. Locations for a self-guided tour to Lovecraft sites can be found at www.hplovecraft.com/creation/sites/rhode.asp. The sites include:

-- John Hay Library: At Brown University, 20 Prospect St., Providence; www.brown.edu or 401-863-3723. Contains Lovecraft archives and the world's largest collection of Lovecraft letters, books and errata. A plaque dedicated to Lovecraft is on the grounds.

-- Halsey House: 140 Prospect St. A mansion that served as the fictional home of a character in the 1927 novella "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward."

-- Prospect Park on Congdon Street. Lovecraft's favorite letter- writing site.

-- "The Shunned House," 135 Benefit St. Inspired a short story of the same name.

-- Cemetery at the Cathedral of St. John, 271 N. Main St. A haunt for both Lovecraft and Edgar Allan Poe in earlier century.

-- Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Blvd. Lovecraft's grave and family plot.
