SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Spanish Fork's Roy Christensen earned a spot in next month's U.S. Senior Open by shooting a 6-under-par 66 Monday at TalonsCove Golf Course.
The 56-year-old Christensen earned a spot in the U.S. Senior Open for the second straight year. Last year he was the lone qualifier in the Utah local qualifying tournament and shot 80-71, missing the cut by four strokes in Hutchinson, Kan.
Kim Thompson, a teaching pro from Salt Lake, finished second with a 67, while Jeremy Country Club pro Tom Costello and Doyle Corbett of Sun Valley, Idaho, both shot 69. Two other Idaho pros, Jeff Thomsen of Boise and John Graham of Idaho Falls shot 72.
