CSU tight end out for season

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Sep 12, 2007 by Associated Press

Medical tests confirm Colorado State star Kory Sperry has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, ending the senior's season.

Surgery has not been scheduled. A timeline for recovery would put him back on the field by next summer should he decide to return next year and petition the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver. Sperry, a 6-foot-6, 260-pound tight end from Vineland, Colo., was injured in the first quarter of CSU's game against Cal on Saturday. His three- touchdown performance in the opener against Colorado earned him the John Mackey award as the national tight end of the week.

ALSO: After being the second-stringer for Miami's first two games, Kyle Wright's is again the Hurricanes' starting quarterback, passing Kirby Freeman on the depth chart for Saturday's game between Miami (1-1) and Florida International (0-2) at the Orange Bowl ... Angered by some derisive and profanity-laced taunts leveled at the visiting Navy football team and its fans last week, Rutgers University officials sent an open letter to students on Tuesday calling for better behavior at upcoming games.
