NASCAR: Edwards docked 100 points

Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Mar 6, 2008

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR has cracked down on Carl Edwards for a failed inspection following his win at Las Vegas Motorspeedway.

Edwards was docked 100 points. He also was stripped of the 10 bonus points he earned toward the championship chase.

Crew chief Bob Osborne also has been fined $100,000 and suspended for six races.

Edwards won Sunday in Las Vegas for his second straight Sprint Cup victory. But his race-winning Ford was found to have a missing cap on its oil tank.

On Wednesday, a NASCAR appeals committee also amended the penalty levied against Robby Gordon, returning the 100 points the driver was docked for an infraction found in Daytona. The reversal moves him back up to 21st in the season standings.
