'Ace,' 'P.S. I Love You' are new to DVD

The following DVDs will be released Tuesday:

-- Ace of Hearts (Fox Home Entertainment, rated PG, $26.98) -- A family film inspired by a Reader's Digest story, Ace is a police dog paired with cop Daniel MacKenzie (Cain).

One day, a thief intentionally injures himself to make it look as if German shepherd was dangerous and tore him up. MacKenzie and his daughter, Julia (Britt McKillip) set out to prove Ace's innocence.

-- African American Lives 2 (PBS Home Video/Paramount Home Entertainment, not rated, $24.99) -- The ancestry of contemporary African Americans is explored in this moving and fascinating PBS documentary hosted by scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Using the most up-to-date genealogical techniques, including DNA analysis, and extensive historical research, the film (in four one- hour episodes) examines the histories of comedian Chris Rock, actors Don Cheadle and Morgan Freeman, poet Maya Angelou, singer Tina Turner, radio host Tom Joyner and others. --Bruce Dancis, McClatchy Newspapers

-- P.S. I Love You (Warner Home Video, rated PG-13, $28.98) -- ** Hilary Swank seems out of sorts in this two-hour sitcom. In the romantic comedy, Swank, a recent widow, receives letters from her late husband who tells her how she can best get on with her life. Also stars Gerard Butler, Lisa Kudrow, Harry Connick Jr. and Kathy Bates.

-- Twister: Special Edition (Warner Home Video, rated PG-13, $20.97) -- Cows, and just about everything else, fly in this 1996 hit, an adventure film starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton about meteorologists who track tornadoes. It's out on a two-disc DVD with a digitally remastered picture and bonus features including a commentary by director Jan DeBont and special-effects supervisor Stefan Fangmeier, specials from HBO and the History Channel, and documentaries "Chasing the Storm: Twister Revisited" and "Anatomy of a Twister."--Bruce Dancis, McClatchy Newspaper
