Drug charges filed after near-collision
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), May 3, 2008
LINDON -- Police arrested a 27-year-old man on several drug charges after an almost all-too-literal run-in with the law.
According to police affidavit, an officer was patrolling near 800 North and State Street when a car almost collided with the officer's vehicle while trying to make a left turn across northbound traffic. The officer "had to make evasive maneuvers" to avoid colliding with the car.
The officer pulled the car over and noticed the driver was trying to conceal something in his pants pocket. The officer ordered him to get out of the vehicle and remove his hand from the pocket. When the man reached for his pocket again, the officer "placed him in a restraint wrist lock."
The officer found a large medication bottle with heroin in his pocket. A search of the car turned up drug paraphernalia, a switchblade and prescription medicine that was not in its original container.
The man was booked into Utah County Jail on four charges, including possession of heroin, possession of paraphernalia, failure to yield, and possession of prescription medication without valid container of prescription.
