Utah County prep games postponed

Deseret News (Salt Lake City),  May 8, 2008  by Deseret News

Heavy rain Wednesday afternoon postponed a full slate of high school sporting events scheduled for Region 4 and Region 7.

Only the Region 7 track meet at Timpview High was able to get in two distance events on Wednesday, and the remainder of the meet will take place today beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Region 4 moved its two-day track meet back one day, meaning the first day of events will take place today at American Fork High, and the meet will wrap up on Friday.

Four baseball games were also moved back one day. American Fork will play today at Lehi, Pleasant Grove will play at Lone Peak and Timpanogos plays host to Spanish Fork. Lone Peak can win the Region 4 baseball title with a victory. If the Knights lose, they'll finish tied with the winner of the Spanish Fork-Timpview game.

Provo and Payson were set to play a Region 4 play-in game for the league's final spot into the 4A playoffs, and that game also has been moved to today at 4 p.m. at Springville High School.

In all, of the total of 30 high school games which were scheduled to be played Wednesday, only four games -- three in soccer and one in softball -- managed to get in despite Wednesday's wet weather.

Virtually all of those games that were washed out on Wednesday have been rescheduled for today, weather and field conditions permitting.
