Orem road work may cause some delays for drivers

Deseret News (Salt Lake City),  May 12, 2008

The Utah Department of Transportation announced a number of traffic restrictions on Orem roads this month and advises motorists to use caution in construction zones.

Beginning today, traffic near milepost 15 on U.S. 189 in Provo Canyon will be diverted to the down canyon side, with only one lane in each direction.

Sunday night, crews began limiting traffic at the intersection at 800 North and State Street to two lanes in all directions. Additionally, there will be no left-hand turn lanes and no left- hand turns in any direction.

The restriction marks the beginning of an operation to pave 400 West to Main Street over the next two weeks.

The southwest quadrant at State Street will be closed first, and traffic will be shifted to the east side of the road until paving in the southwest quadrant is complete.

Paving crews will then move to Commercial Street and Orem Boulevard, as well as the section from State to 400 West, while other crews open the southwest quadrant of State Street. Crews will then shift north-south traffic from the east to the west side of State and close the southeast quadrant of State.

After the paving crews finish State Street to 400 West, they will move into the southeast quadrant of State then into the section from State to Main. Crews expect to start paving the southwest quadrant of State Street on Thursday, State Street to 400 West by the end of this week and State to Main the next week.

State Street in Lindon will be reduced to two southbound lanes and one northbound lane from approximately Center Street to 200 North beginning this week. Speed limits will be reduced to 30 mph through the construction zone, and no left turns will be allowed. The restriction will be in place through August.

Construction will begin work today on a box culvert under state Route 73 as part of a Jordan River Trail Enhancement. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with lowered speed limits through the construction zone.

UDOT will also be rehabilitating several culverts starting today on state Route 68 south in Saratoga Springs. Flaggers will be posted, and motorists can expect occasional delays.
