Gary Bosshardt of Redmond, Sevier County, is one of five U.S. college students who will receive a Young American Award at an annual meeting of the Boy Scouts of America Friday in San Diego.

An avid volunteer and Eagle Scout, Bosshardt has shown a lifelong dedication to service through his involvement in the community and the Boy Scouts of America.

The Young American Award recognizes college students for their outstanding commitment to improving their community, state and nation.

Bosshardt assists first-generation, low-income and disabled students by tutoring them in math, chemistry, English and Spanish. Bosshardt also has dedicated significant time and effort to Scouting for Good, the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the Arthritis Fund, Pennies by the Inch, a women's shelter, biannual Adopt-A-Highway projects and many town beautification projects.

"The Boy Scouts of America is proud to recognize Gary for his achievements," said Scott Baird, council president of the Utah National Parks Council.
