Family summer challenge issued

The Family History Library's "Summer of Sleuthing" challenge kicks off June 28. The program is designed to help families learn how family history can be fun, informative and rewarding.

The challenge will begin with a one-hour event June 28 at 10 a.m. and will repeat hourly through 7 p.m. The six-week program will include tasks for all ages to complete each week at home and end with an "awards" ceremony Aug. 9.

Also, the next series of classes on FamilySearch Indexing will be Saturday, July 12, at the Family History Library. The series runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and includes the classes "How to do indexing," "Arbitrating FamilySearch Indexing batches and "Indexing Administration."

Honors for Cosic filmmakers

Erin Goff, editorial director of the Brigham Young University Daily News, has been recognized by the American Women in Radio and Television for her role as executive producer of the film "An Off- Court Story: The Life of Kresimir Cosic." Goff won a Gracie Award in the category of best portrait/biography.

The piece tells the story of the Croatian basketball player Kresimir Cosic, highlighting his contributions as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The film's producer, Lindsey Blumell Jurdana, worked on the film while attending BYU. The documentary also earned Jurdana a "Gracie" for outstanding portrait/biography and outstanding documentary- midlength format.

"An Off-Court Story" is part of a series called "LDS Lives" shown on BYU Television.

Basketball ref clinic next week

The first of several sports clinics sponsored by LDS Utah Salt Lake City Area Sports will begin Monday. A basketball officials camp will be held at the University of Utah's HPER building from Monday through Wednesday, with classes beginning at 7 a.m. For more information, contact Kae Strong at kaestrong@hotmail.com or 568- 7853.

Ballam, opera event planned

Musical Extravaganza, featuring Michael Ballam and the Utah Festival Opera Company, will be held June 28 at the Cottonwood High School auditorium. The event, sponsored by the Holladay Region Single Adult Council, starts at 6 p.m. with a reception, and performance at 7 p.m. Cost is $15. Go to www.slc-sa.org to register.

Art symposium on 'Godliness'

This year's "Art, Belief, Meaning" symposium at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art will address the artist's challenge of representing Godliness, from the perspective of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Noted LDS artist Brian Kershisnik, a guest professor at BYU in 2006 and an artist in residence at the Utah Museum of Fine Art in 2007, will speak at the event, which will take place Nov. 7, 2008.
