Cultural day slated at BYU museum

PROVO -- Make a quick trip around the globe Monday at the Brigham Young University Museum of Peoples and Cultures.
Children can get a glimpse of six different regions at "Passports: A Cultural Discovery Day," including Africa, Mesoamerica and Polynesia.
At each BYU student-run booth, a hands-on activity will be provided. Children will have the opportunity to grind corn with an stone mano and metate and learn how to write their birthdays in ancient Mayan writing.
A variety of real artifacts, including ancient pottery and arrowheads, will be available for children to see and handle.
Participants will be provided with a "passport" booklet. At each booth, they will get a stamp.
The museum's newest exhibit, "Kachinas of the Southwest: Dances, Dolls, and Rain," will be open for exploring.
"Passports: A Cultural Discovery Day," will be open from 3 to 8 p.m. It is an open house, so families can come and go as time permits.
There is no charge for the event. Refreshments will be provided.
