Then & Now: Place-setter

Deseret News (Salt Lake City),  Jun 26, 2008

The center pylon of the This Is the Place Monument is seen here under construction, before the statues of Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball and Wilford Woodruff were added. The photo is from June 28, 1947, less than one month before the monument was dedicated on July 24, 1947. The dedication date marked the 100th anniversary of the pioneers' arrival in the Salt Lake Valley.

Today, the 60-foot-tall monument, which is free to view and open daily from dawn to dusk, is part of This Is the Place Heritage Park.
