WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Senate approved Utah native Matthew Petersen's nomination to the Federal Election Commission late Tuesday.
The confirmation not only puts a Utahn on the commission but fills the final slot on the commission, "enabling the FEC to act as a fully functioning body during the election season," Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, said.
"Matt Petersen is incredibly skilled in federal campaign finance laws, and I am confident he will serve as an outstanding commissioner," said Bennett, who is the top Republican on the Senate Rules and Administration Committee on which Petersen is the Republican chief counsel. Petersen received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a juris doctorate from the University of Virginia.
