Criticism distorted views
Deseret News (Salt Lake City), Jul 8, 2008
The distorting of political positions results when individuals fail to back up their positions with logic and clarity. A classic case of such distortion is Neil Thomas' letter (Readers' Forum, July 5) criticizing Chuck Baldwin for supposedly unchristian extremist views regarding illegal immigrants.
Unfortunately, equating Baldwin's desire to maintain the integrity of our borders with Hitler-type concentration camps and gas chambers propagandizes an important serious issue.
Thomas also apparently connects the LDS Church's position on compassionate treatment of illegals with condoning the illegality of their presence. Baldwin calls attention to the fact that any country that can't maintain the integrity of its borders will soon cease to be a nation.
